OCE First Job Program

The Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) First Job program is a follow-on opportunity for Ontario companies who have previously partnered with OCE and an Ontario academic institution on a research project. First Job connects talented master’s or Ph.D. graduates with growing companies across Ontario that need highly skilled talent for research and development roles in order to stay globally competitive.

First Job provides financial support toward the first year’s salary of a master’s or Ph.D. graduate to assume a research and development role within the company. The goal is to grow the company through the development of new products, services and processes. In cases where a company can clearly benefit from hiring expertise in strategic positioning and market development, consideration can also be given to supporting the hire of a master’s level graduate student from a postsecondary business innovation program.

OCE’s First Job Program focuses on economic benefit to Ontario and with its success measured on six key metrics. These are:

  • Economic Impact
  • Market Success
  • Development of Innovation Leaders
  • Investment in R&D and Commercialization
  • Environmental and Social Impact
  • Client Satisfaction
