Event Information:

The Intergovernmental Committee for Economic and Labour Force Development in Toronto (ICE) is delighted to invite you to a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities for improving the coordination of economic development activities in the Toronto region.  The panel will feature the following speakers:

  • Tom Zizys, employment, housing, and community development consultant, and author of the research report, Rowing Together: Best Practices for the Regional Coordination of Economic Development in the Toronto Region;
  • Christian Bernard, Senior Economist at Montréal International
  • David Wolfe, Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto Mississauga and Co-Director of the Program on Globalization and Regional Innovation Systems at the Munk School for Global Affairs.

Tom Zizys will present the findings from his study, Rowing Together: Best Practices for the Regional Coordination of Economic Development in the Toronto Region, commissioned by ICE.  His study identifies barriers and opportunities to coordinating economic development in the Toronto region and suggests ways for improving such regional coordination.

Christian Bernard will provide an overview of the economic development agency for the Greater Montréal region, Montréal International (MI), which is widely recognized as a Canadian best practice for its success in attracting foreign direct investment to Greater Montréal.

David Wolfe will provide commentary on the two presentations based on his extensive knowledge of regional economic development theory and practice, both domestically and internationally.

There is no cost to participate in this event.  A continental breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. with the discussion to follow.  Opportunities for networking following the discussion will allow participants to compare experiences, identify common challenges, and discuss best practices.
