The term Big Data refers to very large datasets, often populated by connected networks of  digital devices, stored on advanced hardware or in the ‘cloud’, and requiring advanced tools of  analysis to identify patterns. These new datasets and analytics have been widely hailed for their  potential to solve problems through predictive analytics and sharing of information across  government; personalize and customize public services to individual needs; and improve
accountability through greater transparency of government activity and results.

Governments across the world are implicated in this development, both for potential  applications, and as collectors and proprietors of data. An Open Data movement is gaining  momentum as governments increasingly share information, often in the form of big data, and  engage with citizens in innovative ways.
This event will help members of the ICE and IPAC networks – including policymakers at all three  levels of government, employers, service providers and academics – understand the opportunities and challenges presented by Big Data and Open Data.

Come hear a panel of experts and policy makers provide their insight and discuss key issues and trends. Speakers will include:

  • Ron McKerlie, Deputy Minister, Government of Ontario
  • Dr. Kevin Tuer, Canadian Digital Media Network
  • Bianca Wylie, Canadian Open Data Institute

There is no cost to participate in this forum. A reception will follow the event.
